Blender is an open source 3D graphics and animation software package used to create extremely realistic textures and environments. We use Blender at Lithodomos VR because we believe in the open-source philosophy, and its ability to produce tremendous locations (like the one above).

An active community is normally coupled with open-source software. This group of online colleagues usually try to help one another solve the problems that inevitably arise when learning a new program. This normally comes in the form of forums or tutorial videos. In my case for Blender, any forum post usually ended with the word HELP!

Sometimes, one contributor is willing to give back to the community in a big way. For Blender this takes the form of the Blender Guru, aka Andrew Price. Andrew created Blender Guru with the “goal of helping artists create better artwork with Blender.” His site offers a range of tutorials, products (including models and systems), and articles. The Guru has guided me through many difficult times, normally after my head was firmly buried into my hands from incomprehension. Many times the Blender Guru has been the artificial light at the end of a long, dark, digital tunnel. Whether you’re using Blender for the first, third, or fiftieth time, check out the Blender Guru…my idol.
